This issue of the
yearbook is dedicated to the bicentennial
of Napoleon’s 1812 invasion of Russia. The issue
features articles by Estonian, Finnish and American historians discussing the
various aspects of the Napoleonic Wars ranging from Prussian foreign policy to
Russian Imperial decorations, from the logistics of Napoleon’s invasion to the
depiction of the invasion in the graphic art of the first half of the 19th
century. The issue also includes a chronology of the quarter‑century of the
Napoleonic Wars.
The three articles in the second part discuss
military cooperation between Latvia and Estonia in the interwar period, issues
related to the memorial to victims of war in Pärnu’s Vana Park, and how the
Soviet propaganda of the Estonian SSR exploited the stories of World War II
veterans. The issue also contains several dozen illustrations and photographs.
