Reenactment of the War of Independence battle: armored train on the southern front in 1919
On Sunday, February 22, we will celebrate the upcoming 108th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia at the Estonian War Museum with a War of Independence reenactment battle to commemoration how the Estonian independence was won. A fierce battle will take place around armored train No. 7 “Wabadus” (Freedom) standing in the grounds of the Estonian War Museum. A typical battle from the War of Independence in the southern front in the spring of 1919 will be reenacted. How were armored trains used in battle, what did the soldiers wear, and what weapons did they fight with? Come and find out.
The battle will begin at approximately 1 p.m. and last about half an hour.
- The troops will be led by Margus Sinimets, chairman of the Saaremaa Sõjavara Selts.
- The Estonian Military Orchestra will lift the spirits of the fighters.
- Siim Õismaa, a researcher at the Estonian War Museum, will provide commentary on the historical background and course of the battle.
- Estonian and Latvian war history club members and volunteers will embody Estonian and Red Army soldiers.
- A soup kitchen will be open, selling hot pea soup, coffee, tea, and pies.
PLEASE NOTE
- It is advisable to arrive early to secure a good view.
- Please park your car further away if possible. Follow the signs and temporary traffic signs.
- Once the battle has begun, it is advisable to remain in your place until the end of the battle and definitely not to enter the restricted area where the battle is taking place.
- The loud explosions may be disturbing, but the noise level is comparable to fireworks. It is advisable to leave dogs at home.
The battle is organized by the Estonian War Museum in cooperation with the Saaremaa Sõjavara Selts and military history clubs.
