Manor café “Maria Juures” at Viimsi Café Day
At the Estonian War Museum in Viimsi Manor, a café will open its doors on Viimsi Café Day, where you’ll feel as if you’re visiting General’s Wife Maria Laidoner. The classic café Maria Juures (At Maria’s place) offers a wide selection of seasonal cakes and sweet pastries. Fresh summer berries, whipped cream, chocolate, cardamom—every sweet tooth will find something to their liking at this café’s counter. After enjoying coffee and cake, you can head out to the manor’s sunny terrace, which offers a view of the ancient trees in Laidoner Park.
Outside, a mud kitchen awaits the children, where they can “bake” sand cakes. Additionally, the War Museum has a play area for children, where they can try on uniforms, build a fort, climb on the climbing wall, and play in a tiny forest hut.
Once the cake is finished, you can go explore the War Museum. On the second floor of the manor, the recently opened exhibition of military models, “From Praying Mantis to Tiger. 20th-century military models,” captivates the imagination of tech enthusiasts of all ages. Armoured Train No. 7 “Wabadus” and the heavy artillery hall are also open. Admission to the exhibitions is included with a museum ticket, Museum Card, or Tallinn Card. Admission is free for children.
On Café Day, the Italian House pop-up wine bar is also open at the manor. Giuseppe Visconti, owner of the Italian House, brings authentic Italian flavors here straight from the vineyards. Among other things, the pop-up bar offers an exclusive tasting of three wines awarded this year by the Estonian Sommelier Association.
