Estonian Military Orchestra Autumn Concert “Music Across the Sea”
Every autumn, the Estonian Military Orchestra gives a grand concert to showcase top-level wind music under the baton of renowned conductors. This autumn’s concert brings music from across the sea, first from neighboring Kingdom of Sweden and then from across the pond in the United States.
The first half of the evening will feature a fine selection of orchestral works and marches by Swedish composers. The guest conductor will be Leif Karlsson, emeritus music inspector of the Swedish Armed Forces, an internationally renowned conductor who has collaborated with many Scandinavian orchestras and conducted more than 250 world premieres. In March, Leif Karlsson conducted the Lithuanian Armed Forces Headquarter’s Band Independence Day concert, and on November 1, he will conduct the Latvian National Guard Orchestra in Riga. The Military Orchestra’s autumn concert is a rare opportunity to hear orchestral works beloved in Sweden conducted by a Swedish conductor.
In the second half of the evening, we will celebrate the anniversary of the opera “Porgy and Bess” by one of America’s most famous composers of all time, George Gershwin. The premiere of this innovative work, which blends elements of classical music with blues and jazz rhythms, took place 90 years ago on September 30 in Boston. Accompanied by a the Estonian Military Orchestra, the most beautiful arias from the opera will be performed by the charismatic singer Susanna Aleksandra, who has jazz roots, and Bert Pringi, who has starred on musical stages for many years. The second half will be conducted by Teet Raik, the conductor of the Estonian Military Orchestra.
