The War Museum is a specialised research centre tasked with conducting scientific research on the basis of the museum’s collection and presenting the results in exhibitions, publications and scientific presentations.
It issues publications, organises academic conferences, events and exhibitions.

Conference
Every year, the Estonian War Museum organises an international military history conference that attracts speakers from all over the world. In recent years, this has been done in cooperation with the Baltic Defence College and the Estonian Military Academy. Articles based on the conference presentations are published in the following year's Estonian Yearbook of Military History.

Yearbook
The Estonian Yearbook of Military History is a peer-reviewed scholarly publication published by the Estonian War Museum - General Laidoner Museum in cooperation with Tallinn University Press. The articles in the Yearbook are based on presentations delivered at the annual Baltic Military History Conference of the previous year.

Hendrik Sepp Prize
The award, named after Hendrik Sepp, an eminent military historian, values and recognises in-depth research of the Estonian military history from prehistory to the present day.
