New info stands by the Estonian War Museum and the Museum of Coastal Folk introduce the military history of Naissaar

With the support of the Estonian War Museum, the Museum of Coastal Folk has installed information stands next to the most important military heritage objects on the island of Naissaar, shedding light on the mysterious history of the island as a military stronghold.

Naissaare’s military heritage is rich and varied. The island has been marked by grandiose plans for defensive structures, some of which were built, some remained unfinished, and some remained on paper. Wandering around the forest and beach, you can see incredibly impressive and intriguing structures, but until now, there were no signs in the landscape explaining what they were.

In order to make visitors’ trips to Naissaar more informative, the Coastal Folk Museum and the Estonian War Museum – General Laidoner Museum agreed in early July 2025 to install weatherproof information stands providing historical overviews at 12 sites of military heritage on Naissaar. In accordance with state budget support agreement no. 5-2/17/2025, the Coastal Folk Museum was responsible for the content of the stands, while the Estonian War Museum financed their production and installation.

The stands were installed in December and await all those interested in military history to discover Naissaare.
