Conscription service in Estonia

The short animation answers the questions of why and when conscription was introduced, what conscription is like in Estonia today, and what it means that the Estonian Defence Forces are built on the principle of reserve forces.

 

Conscription service then and now

A short film about life in conscription service, created to mark the 100th anniversary of the Defence Forces, with parallel footage from the early 1930s and today. The historical part comes from Teodor Luts’s film “The Work and Life of the Defence Forces” (1931), while the contemporary part is a collaboration between the Defence Forces and the Estonian War Museum. The film was produced by the Cyber Command’s Strategic Communications Centre in 2018.

Educational videos on the War of Independence, created in cooperation with the Estonian War Museum and a channel Ajalugu Oskariga (History with Oskar).

 

Documentary „Vabadussõja lugu“ (The story of the War of Independence)

Produced by ETV in cooperation with the Estonian War Museum and the Ministry of Defence as part of the War of Independence 100 events series, the 16-part documentary series The Story of the War of Independence relays the events of one of the most important periods in Estonian history, when a young country that still existed on paper faced a decisive battle for survival. Viewers will be able to see photographs, documents and memories stored in archives. Military and medical historians, economists, weapons experts, etc. help interpret the historical events.

History of the War Museum

Movie “Ringkäik Sõjamuuseumis” (A Tour at the the War Museum) (1938)

A short film about a school group visiting the forerunner of the present-day Estonian War Museum – General Laidoner Museum in 1938 on Vene Street in Tallinn. On the screen you can also see the museum’s director, Taavet Poska.
